Xilisoft Ringtone Maker is an excellent audio editing tool. It allows you to open audio files and trim them so that you can make a ringtone out of them that you can later use on your iPhone or other mobile phones. This application can actually open both audio and video files. The supported formats are quite a few, so I won't bore you with a huge list.
The first thing you have to do to create a ringtone is add a file to the application. It can be an audio or video file, but only audio will be played. When you do this, the audio track will be loaded and you can start playback. At any given time during playback you can set the start and end points for your ringtone. These will tell the application what part of the audio track you want to save in your final file. I like that when you set a start point, the playback of the song is stopped and started from the start point. This allows you to make quick changes to the start point without having to adjust it manually.
At the bottom of the screen are the conversion settings. Regardless of the input file that you are using, you can convert your ringtones to AMR, AMR(3G), MP3, M4R, M4A, OGG, and WAV.
